We are what we repeatedly do. - Aristotle
I celebrated my birthday this past weekend. Surrounded by the ones I love, I couldn't be happier. I'm thankful to God for new life, for family, for friends, for everything that's been given.
Around the time of each birthday, I reflect on things I'd like to accomplish, places I want to go, things I want to see over the next year of my life. I usually make a list - 24 Things I Want to Do Before I'm 25, 25 Things I Want to Do Before I'm 26, and so on.
This year, it just seemed kind of dumb to me.
Lately I've been thinking of habits. Habits and consistency. I think the quote above is true. We are what we repeatedly, habitually do. We can once in a while do something good, or we can once in a while do something bad, but it's what we consistenly do on a daily basis that is who we are.
And so this year, rather than making a checklist of things I want to get done, I want to focus on that never ending process of developing good habits. Good habits that will shape my life in the years to come, God-willing.
